Grab that...snowflake?

Last week my roommates were getting ready to leave for their last intramural flag football game, I asked if I could go with them and watch. As we were driving towards the fields it began to slush a little but we weren't too concerned...

By the time we got to the fields and Janet/Anna put on their cleats it had started to look a little like this :D

And out of nowhere came this blizzard like weather...at one point I couldn't even see the players on the field it was falling so bad...completely awesome!

Candace and her brother Kevin coming to support the team too.

Finally it cleared and stopped snowing, thought it was still cold- poor Janet has no fat on her body so she was rather cold.

I really liked her pants :D

And the winning team! (they were undefeated for the whole "season"!)
Last night was their first game in the tournament---they won in overtime with 2 points! So excited for next week when they play again!

It hasn't snowed since that game and I hope that it won't again for awhile (my personal prediction/hope is that it'll stay warm until January, only be cold for the month and then turn into spring :D)

Non-Omelet Night

Tuesday night we thought that it was supposed to be omelet night at the hospital (they do it once a month in their cafeteria I guess) and we were pretty excited, so Candace, Janet, Candace's brother Kevin, and I headed over to the cafeteria. When we got there we discovered that we were wrong and it had been earlier, but because we were already there and cold we decided to order food anyway because their food is reasonably priced and pretty good. Candace got a hot fudge sundae (she had decided to not sweets for the week...you can see how well it was going :D), Kevin and I french fries, and Janet and I hot chocolate-I burnt my tongue :(

I still want to go to omelet night so we will have to try again!

Hammer Time

Well, it wasn't exactly a hammer, but it was still fun. In "honor" of Cinco de Mayo (yes I know it wasn't actually the 5th of May, but we fit it in where we can) we had a pinata (you got to use any excuse you can to have fun :D) We used a blow-up toy to make sure that the pinata didn't break on the first hit (we were using a pinata that had been used before and actually only had one layer of paper on it)- though we ended up having to just turn it over and dump out the candy :D. Sorry the pictures are small (you can click them to make them bigger), but I figured that this was better than uploading 50 pictures.

I love that the Teachers got involved and I especially love Stephanie's look on her face .

The 5 year old's- we made sure that Jimmy and Kevin went last so that everyone else got a turn.

Water Balloons=Wet

Several weeks ago the theme in our afternoon classes was balloons, and of course you can't talk about balloons without doing something with water balloons. We had to wait over a week because of rain but we were finally able to do the activity in the afternoon class, of course because we had not been able to do it on the original day not everyone had extra clothes and it was a little on the colder side so we ended up only having 15-20 participate in the water balloon part and the others did regular balloons with Andrea.
When we were finished we quickly had to change because we were having a Birthday party also, as I walked by to go upstairs and change I looked in the yellow class and this is what I saw---Kevin, Ruby, Cindy, and Jason all stripping down...hehe!

I totally drenched myself with water balloons, I would bite a little hole for the kids in the balloon and then they would squirt each other with water, unfortunately probably every other one popped on me. Because I was already wet I just poured the buckets of water on myself---the kids thought that it was hilarious!

Sock Hop

Three funny things about this picture...
1. These are all the socks that I did in the laundry today.
2. This is not even all the socks that I have here with me in Taiwan.
3. I actually hate wearing socks because my feet always feel claustrophobic.

So continuing with the Dr. Suess theme of the week Andrea suggested that because I have so many fun socks with me that I might take my socks and have the kids match them together. I thought that it would be fun so on Tuesday that is what I did. 3 year olds had fun doing it, they specially loved being told good job and be cheered on Teacher Stephanie and I. 5 year olds started out well they were having fun, when my socks started disappearing, I finally noticed that someone was wearing a sock on their feet so I requested that everyone take them off, Kevin started to take them off and he had at least 8 of my socks (plus his own) on!!! I don't know how he wasn't sweating!

Standing Guard

Wednesday in my middle class we were talking about being grateful and remembering to say "thank you" to those that help us, give something to us, or just do something in general. Because I figured that 30 minutes of just me saying "we need to say thank you" might be a little boring I tried to think of a way to practice using that skill but also make it interesting, so I brought a 4-5 plastic balls with me. We began by sitting in a circle and passing one ball around, when someone gave us a ball we would say "thank you" and then pass it to the next person. The 3 year olds it was a struggle to even understand that part, but the 4 year olds we were able to add more balls and roll them to different people across the circle (they were supposed to continue remembering the thank you part though they weren't always the best at it).
With the 5 year olds it began the same as the other two classes, but some where in the middle it all changed :D We went from the rolling the balls across the circle to two different teams across the room from each other, to me on one team and everyone else against me. That was fine I had no problem with that, but all of a sudden they weren't rolling the balls to me, they were counting to 3 and throwing them at me at the same time (for some reason all the ages enjoy throwing things at me). I was sitting on the ground and just hiding my head between my legs the first couple of times and then I looked up and Kevin (one who prides himself on being very "boy," you know the type) was standing in front of me with his arms spread wide to protect me from the balls that were flying at me from the other side of the room. Soon more and more of the 5 year olds were gathered in front of me protecting me from the other group...I was quite touched that they felt the need to protect me and I thought it was funny too, after I excused them to go to lunch I just lay on the ground laughing.
