Pollock Painting

Last week our afternoon theme was art, each day Andrea and I picked a different famous artist, talked a little bit about them and then did a project inspired by them.
Wednesday I chose to Jackson Pollock. The kids had fun flinging their paintbrushes and making pretty pictures...note to those who want to try it, the thinner the paint the better it will work.

*Check out the Jackson Pollock website HERE, move the mouse and click to change colors to create your own cool picture.

All In A Row

Last week I came down to yellow class during nap time to get some things for my afternoon class, I found all the shoes up in a row. I suspect Rain did it, he loves to put things in order and will always come in before the others and put out the chairs.

Pinata Hat

Who knew that a broken pinata could be so much fun or make an awesome hat? I have a picture from last time with a broken pinata on my head, so of course I had to do it again. Very quickly several others wanted to try it too!

Glamour

Friday afternoon the 5 year olds did not come to class, instead they got to hang out in the green class and take glamour shots. Each person had 4 different outfits, their hair and make-up done and many, many pictures taken.
After lunch I quickly got my lesson stuff all together and then grabbed my camera and headed to the green class. I took pictures of them getting ready (they were going to get the professional photos but I always like having the before parts too) and just enjoyed watching them get ready. There was lots of hairspray and material.
I have uploaded a sample (just a sample as there is over 300 pictures professional and I look over 200 pictures also) of what was taken...can you believe that I get to work with these beautiful/handsome (the boys did not like being called beautiful or told that they had to wear lipstick :D) kids everyday? Remember that there is also one more outfit for each of them and two more different picture styles!!

Water Balloons=Wet

Several weeks ago the theme in our afternoon classes was balloons, and of course you can't talk about balloons without doing something with water balloons. We had to wait over a week because of rain but we were finally able to do the activity in the afternoon class, of course because we had not been able to do it on the original day not everyone had extra clothes and it was a little on the colder side so we ended up only having 15-20 participate in the water balloon part and the others did regular balloons with Andrea.
When we were finished we quickly had to change because we were having a Birthday party also, as I walked by to go upstairs and change I looked in the yellow class and this is what I saw---Kevin, Ruby, Cindy, and Jason all stripping down...hehe!

I totally drenched myself with water balloons, I would bite a little hole for the kids in the balloon and then they would squirt each other with water, unfortunately probably every other one popped on me. Because I was already wet I just poured the buckets of water on myself---the kids thought that it was hilarious!

Easter Egg Hunt

Last week in honor of Easter we did an Easter egg hunt for the kids during one of our afternoon classes. While the kids watched Winnie the Pooh: Springtime with Roo, Andrea and Yuling hid the eggs outside.
When it was time Yuling came and explained the rules, if they brought in one egg they got one sucker, if they brought in two eggs at one time they got one suckers (the objective was to make it last as long as possible so we wanted them to bring them in one at a time).
The 3 year olds got to go first, for 30 seconds and then the 4 year olds joined them for 30 seconds and finally the 5 year olds were released (they were anxious to go, with their shoes already on by the time it was their turn).
The kids had a blast rushing to try and find eggs and then running like there was no tomorrow to get their suckers. When class was over there was still 3 that had not been found, so Yuling offered a bigger prize for the 3 lucky people that found them. Later when I came back downstairs, Wendy (who had found one of the 3) was so excited to show me her big candy cane that she had won!

Finger Painting

Two weeks ago we were talking about paper, I had a fun project where we were going to do marbled paper, but for some reason I couldn't get the liquid to work and hold the paint. So with only 15 minutes before class started I decided that we were going to finger paint, I think that the kids had lots of fun.
They came up with many different pictures. And can I just say that I love them in these cute little aprons? I didn't even know that we had these until right before class, I think they were a good choice...if only to get a cute picture :D

Cute little Eva, she started out with her fingers but decided that wasn't working quickly enough for her so used her complete hands :D She came up to me afterwards and was like "look teacher" and showed me her very red hands.

After Nap Cycle

One afternoon before class started I went down, I had my camera with me so I was able to snap some pictures of all that is generally done before I even get to class. After lunch I set-up all the beds, it's nice to see that they can put them away themselves.

I love the progression of these next 3 photos, of Ethan waking up. It really shows what I go through on a daily basis, some will be wide awake when I come to class but several will be like this and I watch as they wake up more and can respond.
